Somatic Experiencing Spain

Online Introduction Workshop
January 2027

Contents

In this 12-hour theoretical and practical workshop, participants will learn:

  1. What is Somatic Experiencing (SE) and how does it differ from other therapies?
  2. What do we mean by ‘trauma’ in this approach?
  3. Basic SE principles and tools
  4. The Autonomic Nervous System Why is it relevant to understand how it works?
  5. How does trauma work?
  6. Resilience, self-regulation and resources
  7. Demonstration
  8. Working methodology and group practices

The workshop is aimed at people from different areas of work and offers tools that can be used both personally and professionally to reduce the symptoms of nervous system dysregulation.

Unlike cognitive therapies (top-down approaches), SE is a bottom-up therapy, focusing on the body and ‘body memory’. As such, it stresses the importance of the subcortical levels of the brain. Starting from these more ‘primitive’ brain structures and their bodily reactions, bottom-up approaches aim to change the way the body responds to traumatic experiences, working upwards to the higher cortical systems (Kuhfuß et al., 2021). SE is a complementary tool to top-down approaches such as psychoanalysis, cognitive behavioural therapy, Gestalt therapy etc.
